Romans 8:11 "The Power in You" (Resurrection - Week 3)

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. (ESV)
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. (NIV)
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. (NLT)
Dive Deeper:
Romans eight has always been one of the most impactful chapters of the Bible for me. It's filled with sweet Gospel truths that speak directly to who we are in Christ—truths I return to time and time again. This week’s verse, in particular, is one I cling to for two powerful reasons. First, the Spirit of God doesn't just dwell in us; it carries the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. Second, this power isn’t in vain or fleeting—it promises that our mortal bodies will one day be resurrected, too.
Have you ever paused to truly consider this? The wonder-working power of the Spirit lives inside of you. If it can raise Jesus from the dead, can it not also give you courage, strength, and wisdom in your moments of desperation? When you feel weak, when the weight of life presses in, when you think you can’t take another step—remember this: the same power that overcame death is in you.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” - 2 Timothy 1:7
We are never alone. The Spirit is with us. Not as a passive presence, but as the very power that raised Christ from the dead. And because of that, we stand with the King of Kings, the one who defeated death itself.
Jesus’ resurrection proves who He is. He didn’t come merely as a teacher, but as God, with authority over death. He laid down His life willingly, and by the power of the Spirit, He took it back up again. This is the historical reality that we rest in, that Jesus will do what He says. He foretold and fulfilled His death and resurrection, and He invites us into that same reality.
In John 11:25b-26, He declares, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Because He rose, we walk in the newness of life now, through the Spirit. And one day, just as He conquered the grave, we too will follow in His footsteps.
